Introduction
The Second World War was one of the most important events of the twentieth century. It altered the global balance of power like never before. The dominance of imperial powers like England and France has been severely eroded by the end of the war. However, Germany along with the other members of the triple alliance have lost the war. The Japanese military did not want to follow Germany. It believed that the Soviet Union could be defeated by Hitler’s forces. It started focusing on invading and occupying the Pacific region. Japan’s military believed that it could dominate the Pacific region and Asia, while Germany can rule over much of Europe. Seeing that shift in Japan’s attention, Stalin redirected his troops towards the country’s west. This made it difficult for Germany to defeat the last standing European military power of the time.
Entry of USA into the War
The entry of USA into the Second World War was another factor which titled the balance between the two sides. Germany would have won the Second World War if the USA was not invaded and forced to enter the war and support the members of the Triple Entente. When the war broke out in Europe and Asia, USA did not want to join the war. It was merely supporting the UK by supplying weapons and other military equipment (Farley, 2017). But the attack on Pearl Harbour forced the reluctant giant to enter the war. The USA became the world’s largest economy by the 1870s and was a majority military power equipped with advanced weaponry. America’s assault on Germany and Japan has crushed their war machines. According to some historians, the American army made it impossible for Germany to hold on its occupied territories in Europe.
